Pavel Botsu: Moldavian Poet and Politician
Early Life and EducationPavel Botsu was born in the village of Priozernoe, now part of the Kilii district of the Odessa region. He graduated from the Ion Creanga Pedagogical Institute in Chisinau in 1956.
Literary Career
Botsu's literary career began with the publication of his poetry collection "The Land of the Fathers" in 1959. This was followed by several more collections of poetry, short stories, essays, and a children's book. Notable works include "House in Budjak" (1973), "Crane Sky" (1978), and "Oath" (1981). Botsu also translated Russian poets such as Vladimir Mayakovsky and Samuil Marshak into Moldavian.
Political Involvement
Botsu joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1961. He served as chairman of the Board of the Writers' Union of the Moldavian SSR from 1965 and as secretary of the Board of the Writers' Union of the USSR from 1967. He was also a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for the 7th convocation.
Awards and Recognition
Botsu was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and the State Prize of the Moldavian SSR (1974) for his poetry collection "Kasa ын Бу?як" (House in Budjak").
Tragic Death
On February 17, 1987, Botsu fatally shot himself with a hunting rifle on the highway.
