Pearl Bailey was an American singer and actress, born on March 29, 1918, and passed away on August 17, 1990. She was born in Southampton County, Virginia and made her debut on stage at the age of 15. Her first performances took place at the Pearl Theater in Philadelphia, and she later moved on to the Apollo Theater in Harlem. It was during this time that Pearl Bailey began her career in film and music. In the 1930s, Bailey worked as a dancer and singer in nightclubs. During World War II, she toured with renowned musicians. In July 1946, Pearl Bailey exploded onto the American society with her composition "It's A Woman's Prerogative". The budding singer and actress experienced overwhelming success, and her name became known to every American.
Early Career
In 1954, Bailey played one of her first roles on the big screen, brilliantly bringing the character of Frankie to life in the film "Beat Out That Rhythm on the Drum". This work became one of the best in her career. During this period, the actress also participated in the production of the Broadway musical "House of Flowers".

In 1959, Pearl Bailey played the role of Maria in the film "Porgy and Bess", which starred Sidney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge. In the same year, she played the role of Aunt Hagar in the film "St. Louis Blues". In 1968, Pearl Bailey collaborated with Cab Calloway on a new interpretation of the musical "HELLO, DOLLY!" This project achieved resounding success on Broadway.
