Biography of Pedro Rodriguez

Pedro Rodriguez was a Mexican race car driver, best known for his victory in the 1968 Le Mans 24-hour race. He also competed in the Targa Florio and Formula-1 races throughout his career.

Early Career

In 1963, Pedro Rodriguez made his debut in Formula-1, participating in the United States and Mexican Grand Prix for the Lotus team. Unfortunately, technical issues forced him to retire from both races.

The following year, Rodriguez joined the North American Racing Team and competed in the Mexican Grand Prix, where he finished in 6th place and scored his first championship point.

Success with North American Racing Team

Continuing to race for the North American Racing Team in 1965, Rodriguez participated in the American and Mexican Grand Prix. He secured 2 championship points by finishing 5th in the United States Grand Prix.

Challenging Seasons

In the 1966 season, Rodriguez encountered technical difficulties in all four races he competed in for Lotus and was unable to finish. However, in 1967, racing for Cooper, he experienced his first successful season. He won the opening race, the South African Grand Prix, and achieved four more points-scoring finishes, ultimately finishing 6th in the championship standings.

BRM and Ferrari Years

In 1968, Rodriguez switched to the BRM team and, despite failing to finish 7 out of 12 races, he secured 6th place in the championship thanks to three podium finishes and two additional points-scoring finishes. However, in 1969, he struggled and only managed to finish in the points zone twice, resulting in a 14th place overall. Worth noting is that he changed teams three times during the season, racing for BRM, Scuderia Ferrari, and North American Racing Team.

Final Seasons and Tragic End

In the 1970 season, Pedro Rodriguez had a strong performance, winning the Belgian Grand Prix, finishing 2nd in the United States, and securing 7th place in the overall standings. However, tragedy struck in 1971 when he lost his life in a race accident during the Interserie race at the Norisring, bringing his career to a tragic end.
