Peggy Lipton Jones was born on August 30, 1946, in New York, USA. She is an American television actress best known for her roles as Julie Barnes in the series "The Mod Squad" and Norma Jennings in the cult mystery series "Twin Peaks".

Early Life and Career

Peggy Lipton was born to Rita Hattie Benson and Harold Lipton, a corporate lawyer. Her paternal grandparents were Russian Jews, and her mother, who was born in Dublin, Ireland, was also of Eastern European Jewish descent. Peggy grew up in Lawrence, Long Island, New York, alongside her brothers Robert and Kenneth.

She signed a contract with the modeling agency "Ford" and enjoyed a successful fashion career. In 1964, her family moved to Los Angeles, and that same year, Peggy made a deal with Universal Pictures. Her acting debut came as a student at a private women's academy in San Francisco in the sitcom "The John Forsythe Show". In 1967, she appeared in the finale of the series "Elizabeth's Odyssey" and the multi-part Western "The Road West" with Barry Sullivan and Katherine Hayes.

Breakthrough Role in "The Mod Squad"

Peggy's star rose with her role in the series "The Mod Squad" in 1968, which was a hit until 1973. Her involvement in the project earned her four nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, and she won the award for "Best Television Actress in a Drama" in 1971.

She also achieved success as a singer, with three of her singles, "Stoney End", "Lu", and "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", making it onto the Billboard charts.

Later Career and Personal Life

In the 1990s, Peggy returned to acting and joined the cast of David Lynch's television series "Twin Peaks" and portrayed Kelly MacKuin Foster in the series "Best of the Best".

Peggy Lipton has been very interested in various religious teachings and has learned a lot about Hinduism and Scientology. She was briefly involved with Elvis Presley, but their relationship ended when she tried to convince him to join the Church of Scientology, which he viewed as a scam.

In 1974, Lipton married Quincy Jones and voluntarily took a break from her acting career to focus on her growing family. The couple had two children before divorcing in 1990. However, they remained close friends.

In 2004, Peggy was diagnosed with colon cancer. She underwent treatment and continued to act during remission. In 2005, she published her memoir, "Breathing Out", where she discussed her relationship with Paul McCartney before gaining fame through "The Mod Squad" series.
