Early Life and Education

Penn Badgley, an American actor known for his role as Dan Humphrey in the television series "Gossip Girl," was born on November 1, 1986, in Baltimore, Maryland. He spent his childhood in Seattle and Richmond, attending Charles Wright Academy in Seattle and taking classes at the Seattle Children's Theater School. He also hosted radio shows for children during this time. In 1999, he moved to Los Angeles with his mother, and at the age of 14, Penn completed the California High School Proficiency Exam and began studying at Santa Monica College. At 17, he was accepted into the University of Southern California.

Early Career

Penn's first job was providing voice-over work for the video game "Mario Golf 64" in 1999, although he claims to have never played it himself. He later voiced another game, "Mario Tennis 64," in 2000. His first on-screen role came in the television series "Will & Grace," followed by guest appearances in "The Young and the Restless," "The Brothers Garcia," and "What I Like About You." In 2001, he portrayed Phillip Chancellor in "The Young and the Restless," earning a nomination for the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Daytime Series. In 2002, he starred as Joel Larsen in the series "Do Over," playing a 34-year-old man who gets the chance to start his life over thanks to a strange incident that sends him back 20 years in time. He also appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," although the series did not receive a full season. Penn later had a role in the film "Drive-Thru," playing one of the main characters.

After some time, Penn landed the role of Sam Tunney in the series "The Mountain," which served as a stepping stone to his leading role in the series "The Bedford Diaries." His first film role came in 2006, portraying Scott Tucker, John Tucker's brother, in the movie "John Tucker Must Die," alongside Sophia Bush, Jesse Metcalfe, and Brittany Snow. The film grossed over $41 million domestically. In 2007, Penn achieved widespread recognition for his portrayal of Dan Humphrey in the drama series "Gossip Girl." The show follows the life of a teenager growing up on New York's Upper East Side, attending elite academic institutions while dealing with drug problems, personal issues, and more.
