Early Life and Education

Famed Armenian writer, playwright, and former Minister of Culture of Armenia, was born in 1948. In 1956, he returned to Armenia and reestablished his roots.

Literary Beginnings

His literary career took off in 1956 with the publication of his first collection of short stories. He pursued higher education at the Pyatigorsk Institute of Foreign Languages, graduating in 1963. Eager to expand his writing skills, he enrolled in higher screenwriting courses in Moscow from 1963 to 1964.

Career in Film and Television

After his screenwriting studies, he worked as an editor at the "Armenfilm" film studio from 1965 to 1968. Subsequently, he became the editor-in-chief of the "Yerevan" television film studio, where he held the position from 1965 to 1975.

Literary Leadership

In 1975, he was appointed as the secretary of the Union of Writers of Armenia, a post he held until 1986. During this time, he played a significant role in fostering Armenian literature.

Ministerial Role

In 1990, he was appointed as the Minister of Culture of Armenia, serving in that capacity until 1991. During his tenure, he championed the promotion and preservation of Armenian culture.

Awards and Honors

Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades for his contributions to Armenian arts and culture. These include the Order of Honor (2016), the Order of St. Mesrop Mashtots (2008), and the Movses Khorenatsi Medal.
