Pete Burns was a British singer and composer, best known as the lead vocalist of the band "Dead or Alive," which gained popularity in 1985 with the release of the single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)." He was born on August 5, 1959, in Port Sunlight, Merseyside, England. His father was English, and his mother was a Jewish woman from Heidelberg, Germany.
Early Life and Career
Pete Burns initially attracted public attention with his flamboyant appearance. However, he gained widespread recognition with the release of the single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," which achieved gold status with over 500,000 copies sold and reached high positions on charts worldwide, including topping the UK Singles Chart.
Despite initially being perceived as gay due to his androgynous appearance, Burns was, in fact, bisexual. He was married to Lynn Corlett, whom he met while working together at a hair salon. Prior to forming the band Dead or Alive, Burns was a member of the groups Mystery Girls and Nightmares in Wax, both of which played in the goth-punk style. Nightmares in Wax released the 12" single "Black Leather" and the 7" single "Birth of a Nation" but never produced a full album.
Later Life and Death
On October 23, 2016, at the age of 57, Pete Burns passed away due to a heart attack. His music and unique style continue to influence and inspire artists and fans around the world.
