Peter Hook Biography
British rock musician Peter Hook is currently involved in the project "Freebass" - a supergroup consisting of former bass guitarists. The lineup of "Freebass" is very strong, including Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and Mani (The Stone Roses, Primal Scream).

Early Life and Joy Division
Peter Hook was born in Manchester in 1956. In the mid-1970s, he played a pivotal role in the formation of the young punk band "Joy Division" as their bass guitarist. The band's name, "Joy Division," was controversial as it referred to the units of young women in Nazi concentration camps who were used for the sexual pleasure of officers. The band faced accusations of fascism, which always puzzled and angered the young musicians as the ideas conveyed in their lyrics were directly opposed to fascism. Nevertheless, the band achieved great success and continued to perform and record until 1980 when their vocalist and leader, Ian Curtis, tragically ended his own life. Hook later admitted that his skill as a bassist was greatly influenced by his time in Joy Division.

New Order and Solo Projects
Hook and the remaining members of Joy Division renamed the band as "New Order" and continued to perform under this new name. "New Order" moved towards a more dance-oriented direction, collaborating with New York hip-hop producer Arthur Baker. In 1983, they released the single "Confusion," followed by "Thieves Like Us" in 1984. Meanwhile, almost all of the members of "New Order" engaged in parallel solo projects. In 1984, Peter Hook recorded a very successful single called "Telstar" with the band "Ad Infinitum." In the late 1980s, Hook felt constrained within the confines of "New Order" and decided to pursue his own solo career. In 1989, he formed his own hard rock band called "Revenge," which lasted until 1992. This was followed by another project called "Monaco," which existed from 1997 to 2000.

Current Projects
Currently, Peter Hook is involved in the project "Freebass," a supergroup consisting of former bass guitarists. The lineup of "Freebass" includes Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and Mani (The Stone Roses, Primal Scream). Hook's relationship with his former "New Order" bandmates is strained, although an official breakup of the band has never been announced. Regarding his future with "New Order," Hook has repeatedly stated that he wants nothing more to do with his former colleagues and believes that the band does not have the right to use their historical name without his involvement.
