Speculations surround his alleged involvement with the Russian mafia, which may have contributed to his desire to maintain a low profile.
Business Ventures in Russia
Kellner expanded his business empire into Russia, establishing the Petr Velikiy investment fund in 1993. The fund invested in various stocks, including RAO UES and particularly GKO bonds. However, in 1997, Kellner abruptly closed the fund and transferred its assets, estimated at $30-$50 million, out of the country.
Acquisition of Ingosstrakh
In 2007, Kellner acquired 40% of Ingosstrakh, a Russian insurance company, from Alexander Mamut. This purchase brought him into conflict with Oleg Deripaska, a powerful Russian magnate who held the majority stake in Ingosstrakh.
