Biography of Peter Woodcock
Peter Woodcock, born David Michael Krueger, was a Canadian serial killer and child rapist. He was responsible for the murders of three young children in Toronto, Canada, in 1956 and 1957, when he was still a teenager. In 1991, he also killed a patient at a psychiatric hospital. Woodcock was diagnosed as a psychopath.
Early Life and Childhood
Woodcock was born on March 5, 1939, in Peterborough, Ontario. His 17-year-old mother, a factory worker from Peterborough, gave him up for adoption after his birth. For the first three years of his life, Woodcock moved from one foster home to another. He suffered physical abuse in at least one of these homes, resulting in a serious neck injury. He was later adopted by a wealthy family living near Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue. The family paid for Woodcock's education at a private school, his medical treatment, and even bought him a motorcycle. As he reached puberty, Woodcock began fantasizing about being a gang leader, and he roamed around Toronto on his bike. In reality, Woodcock committed sexual crimes against children in Parkdale and Cabbagetown.
Serial Killings
Woodcock eventually brutally murdered three young children in 1956 and 1957. He was arrested for murder in 1957 but was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was placed in a psychiatric institution in Penetanguishene. It was there that he officially changed his name. After completing a treatment program for psychopathic individuals, it was believed that Woodcock's condition had significantly improved, and he was transferred to a medium-security hospital in Brockville, Ontario, in 1991.
Later Crimes and Death
While in the hospital, Woodcock developed feelings for another psychopathic patient named Dennis Kerr, who rejected all of Woodcock's sexual advances. In response, Woodcock murdered Kerr. Another patient, Bruce Hamill, who had killed an elderly woman in Ottawa in 1977, was implicated in the murder and both he and Woodcock were sent back to Penetanguishene. Woodcock revealed that the treatment program had only made him a more skilled manipulator. Spending a significant portion of his life in confinement, Woodcock passed away on March 5, 2010.
Victims
On September 15, 1956, Woodcock lured 7-year-old Wayne Mallette to a vacant area, and the young boy was initially accused of the murder. On October 6, 1956, Woodcock led 9-year-old Gary Morris to Cherry Beach, where he killed him. On January 19, 1957, Woodcock murdered 4-year-old Carole Voyce in a ravine under the Prince Edward Viaduct. Finally, on July 13, 1991, he and Bruce Hamill used a knife and an ax to kill Dennis Kerr.
Woodcock, known as David Krueger, was prominently featured in the 2002 BBC documentary film "Mind of a Murderer: Mask of Sanity."
