Petr Fedoseev, a renowned Soviet philosopher and public figure, left an indelible mark on the intellectual landscape of the 20th century.
Early Life and Education
Petr Fedoseev was born on August 9 (22), 1908, in Starinskoe, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. He graduated from the Gorky Pedagogical Institute in 1930 and later completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Institute of History and Philosophy in 1936.
Academic Career
Fedoseev began his academic career as a research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1936 to 1941. In 1955, he became the Director of the institute, a position he held for seven years. He served as the Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1962 to 1967 and again from 1971 to 1988.
Political Involvement
Fedoseev played a prominent role in Soviet politics as a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) from 1939. He was elected to the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1961 to 1989. He also served as a Deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1962 to 1989.
Work and Contributions
Fedoseev's philosophical works focused on historical materialism, scientific communism, scientific atheism, and the critique of bourgeois philosophy and sociology. His prominent publications include:

After 1988, Fedoseev served as an advisor to the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He passed away and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
