Early Life and Education
Vasily Vladimirovich Goremikin was born on June 29, 1902, in the village of Rozhdestvennoye, Voronezh Oblast, into a peasant family. In 1917, he began his career as a locksmith's apprentice in the Borisoglebsk railway workshops. From 1918 to 1921, he attended Borisoglebsk Soviet Party School and Borisoglebsk Rabfak.
Military Service and Engineering Career
In 1921, Goremikin joined the Kiev Normal Flight School and subsequently the Petrograd Higher Air School. He served as a detachment mechanic in the 27th Division of the Western Military District. In 1931, he graduated from the N.E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
From 1933 to 1936, Goremikin held managerial positions at Moscow's Mosgipromach and Factory No. 8. In 1936, he became the chief engineer at Factory No. 92 in Gorky.
Political Purges and Rehabilitation
In February 1938, Goremikin was appointed head of the 3rd Main Administration of the USSR People's Commissariat of Defense Industry. In May 1940, he became deputy people's commissar of armaments. However, in March 1951, he was falsely accused of violating state discipline and relieved of his duties. He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment but was rehabilitated and reinstated in the Communist Party in 1953 after Stalin's death.
Post-War Career
In June 1953, Goremikin became director of State Union Research Institute No. 642 in Moscow. He subsequently served in various ministerial positions in the defense and machine-building industries, including minister of general machine-building from April 1955 to May 1957.
Retirement and Legacy
After his retirement in 1957, Goremikin worked as a consultant for the Institute of Marxism-Leninism and held various technical and advisory roles within the Soviet government. He passed away on November 8, 1976, and was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery.
