Pyotr Andreevich Slovtsov: A Renowned Siberian Historian
Early Life and EducationPyotr Andreevich Slovtsov, born into a clerical family in 1767, hailed from the Verkhotursky district in Siberia. He pursued his education at the Alexander Nevsky Theological Seminary, where he forged a lifelong friendship with Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky.
Teaching and Religious Sermons
As a teacher in the Tobolsk Theological Seminary, Slovtsov earned recognition for his exceptional teaching skills and eloquent preaching. His sermons, often delivered at the Znamensky Monastery, forcefully addressed societal corruption, particularly among high-ranking officials in St. Petersburg.
Imprisonment and Reconciliation
Following a denunciation by the governor in 1795, Slovtsov faced imprisonment and banishment to the Valamo Monastery. However, through the intercession of influential religious figures, he was reinstated as a teacher at the Alexander Nevsky Seminary and later transferred to prestigious positions in the government.
Administrative Service in Siberia
