Early Life and EducationBorn in Mažeikiai, Lithuania, Petras Bražėnas completed high school in Molėtai in 1958. He then pursued a degree in Lithuanian language and literature at Vilnius University, graduating in 1965.
Teaching and Administrative Career
After graduating, Bražėnas taught in Molėtai until 1970. In 1970-1976, he served as an instructor in the cultural department of the Lithuanian Communist Party. He joined the Lithuanian Writers' Union (LWS) in 1975 and held several leadership positions within the organization, including secretary of the board (1976-1986) and first secretary (1986-1990).
Literary Criticism and Scholarship
Bražėnas began publishing literary reviews in 1971 and has since published over 200 scholarly articles, reviews, and essays. His research primarily focuses on contemporary Lithuanian prose. Drawing inspiration from Soviet literary theory, he developed his own concept of the "artistic conception of man." This framework influenced his evaluation of specific prose works.
Academic Career
Since 1991, Bražėnas has taught at Vilnius Pedagogical University (VPU) as a professor in the Department of Lithuanian Literature. He imparts knowledge through undergraduate and graduate courses, including "Literary Process in Lithuanian Literature," "Classics of Lithuanian Literature: Petras Cvirka," and "Analysis of Literary Texts." He has served as dean of the Lithuanian Studies Faculty and a member of the VPU Senate.

Bražėnas's significant contributions include several monographs. In "Petras Cvirka" (1998), he delves into the life and work of the renowned Lithuanian writer. He also contributes to the scholarly journal "Žmogus ir žodis" ("Human and Word").
