Early Life and Education
Petras Geniušas was born as the son of Rimas Geniušas and brother of Julius Geniušas. He initially studied at the Vilnius Conservatory under Jurgis Karnavičius. In 1985, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under Vera Gornostaeva.
Marital Life and Family
Geniušas married Ksenia Knorre, the daughter of his teacher. Their son, Lukas Geniušas, also became a pianist.
Career as a Pianist
Geniušas is renowned as a specialist in contemporary music. Notable composers such as Alfred Schnittke and Leonid Desyatnikov have dedicated works to him.
Teaching and Recognition
Since 1990, Geniušas has taught at the Vilnius Conservatory. In 1999, he became a professor. From 1996 to 1998, he taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 1992, he received the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art.
