Biography of Phil Harrison

Phil Harrison is a former British senior-level manager, best known as the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios and Executive Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. He gained recognition in 2005 when he showcased the hardware of the working model of the PlayStation 3 at the E3 exhibition, along with an interactive demonstration featuring virtual rubber ducks.

Early Career

From 1989 to 1992, Harrison served as the Head of Development at Mindscape International. Prior to this, he had worked in game development and design. In 1992, he joined Sony and held leadership positions in both Europe and North America.

From 1996 to 2000, Harrison served as the Vice President of Third Party Relations, Research, and Development at Sony Computer Entertainment. He played a crucial role in the development of software and hardware formats for the PlayStation consoles.

In September 2005, Sony Computer Entertainment centralized its regional development programs under the newly formed Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, with Harrison appointed as its President. In this role, he collaborated closely with the Japanese, European, and American divisions of the company, overseeing overall development strategy and managing specific divisions.

Transition to Atari

In February 2008, Harrison announced his departure from Sony, officially leaving the company on February 29th of that year. On March 3rd, 2008, it was announced that he had joined Infogrames Entertainment SA, which later changed its name to Atari. While the company shifted its focus, Harrison's position changed to Non-Executive Director.

Move to Gaikai and Microsoft

In April 2010, Harrison left the board of directors at Atari. However, he quickly found a new role as a consultant for David Perry's project Gaikai in May of the same year. In May 2012, Harrison joined one of the divisions of Microsoft.
