Early Life and EducationPhilip Bosco was born on September 26, 1930, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Philip Lupo Bosco and Margaret Raymond. His father worked in amusement park rides, while his mother was a police officer. Bosco's ancestors hailed from Germany and Italy.
He attended St. Peter's Preparatory School in Jersey City and later pursued drama at The Catholic University of America. There, he achieved notable success in Shakespearean roles, including Richard III.
Career and Accomplishments
Bosco's professional acting career spanned several decades. He performed in over 100 Broadway productions, including "Othello," "Amadeus," and "Waiting for Godot." His stage performances earned him numerous accolades, including three Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, and a Daytime Emmy Award.
On screen, Bosco appeared in over 50 television shows and movies, including "The Paper Chase," "Trading Places," and "The First Wives Club." His performance in the latter earned him a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Personal Life
On January 2, 1957, Bosco married fellow Catholic University of America student Nancy Anne Dunkl. They had seven children: Jenny, Diana, Philip, Chris, John, Lisa, and Celia, and 15 grandchildren.
Bosco retired from acting in 2010 and spent his later years in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey.
