Milla Jovovich was born on December 17, 1975, in Kiev, Ukraine, to Galina Loginova, a renowned Soviet actress, and Bogi Jovovich, a Yugoslav pediatrician. She lived in the USSR briefly before moving to the United States with her parents in 1979.

Modeling and Early Acting Career

In the 80s, Jovovich's parents worked as caretakers for filmmaker Brian De Palma. As a result, she often appeared in his party videos. At age 11, she began modeling for magazines and at 13, she made her acting debut in the erotic melodrama "Two Moons Junction." At 16, she won a contest and landed a starring role in the exotic adventure "Return to the Blue Lagoon" (1991).

Success with "The Fifth Element" and Personal Life

At 17, Jovovich met her first husband, actor Shawn Andrews, while filming "Dazed and Confused." They secretly wed in Las Vegas, but their marriage was annulled by her mother a few days later under California law.
