Phil Knight, born on February 24, 1938, in Portland, Oregon, is an American billionaire, co-founder, and CEO of Nike, Inc. He owns 35% of the company's assets, giving him a capital of $10.4 billion, which makes him the 69th richest American.
Education and Early Career
Phil Knight obtained his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Oregon in 1959. While studying at the university, he was a sprinter and was coached by Bill Bowerman. From 1957 to 1959, Knight achieved notable results in university competitions. In 1962, he earned a Master's degree from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
During his time at the university, Bill Bowerman experimented with a new shoe design, using his wife's waffle iron. At that time, athletic shoes were of low quality compared to what they are today. Phil conducted numerous experiments using Bowerman's innovations and eventually began collaborating with him to develop the ideas that would later become Nike sneakers.
After graduating from college, Knight was drafted into the army. Following his military service, he started working for entrepreneur Frank Shallenberger and discovered his talent as a businessman alongside his passion for shoe innovation. Over time, he began developing business plans for his future venture, which marked the beginning of his journey to bring sneakers to the market.

Additionally, Knight provides financial support to Cleveland High School in Portland, Oregon. He has built a new football field, running tracks, and a sports hall there. He also purchased a personal bus for Bill Bowerman, the coach at the University of Oregon.
Phil Knight stepped down as CEO and president of Nike on December 28, 2004, while retaining the position of chairman of the board. He was succeeded by William Perez, who had previously led S.C. Johnson and Son, Inc. Perez was later replaced by Mark Parker in 2006.
Despite his immense wealth, Phil Knight's goal extends beyond monetary success to helping those in need and leaving a lasting impact on the world.
