Biography of Philipp Degen

Introduction

Philipp Degen is a Swiss football player who is known for his position as a right-back for FC Basel. He comes from a football family, as his twin brother, David, is also a professional footballer and a teammate of Philipp.

Participation in the 2006 World Cup

Philipp Degen represented the Swiss national team in the 2006 World Cup. In the Round of 16, his team faced Ukraine and unfortunately lost in a penalty shootout.

Move to Liverpool

On May 20, 2008, it was announced on Liverpool's official website that Philipp Degen would sign a contract with the club starting from July 1. He was expected to be the main player in the right full-back position, previously held by Steve Finnan. However, due to his high susceptibility to injuries, Degen did not play a single league match in his first season with the club.

Career with FC Basel

Philipp Degen signed a contract with FC Basel in 1995. He spent five seasons in the youth team before making his debut for the senior team in 2001. During the first four seasons of his career, Degen played 55 matches and scored four goals in the Swiss football league. Within this four-year period, he won three league titles and one cup with FC Basel, under the management of Christian Gross.
