Early Life and Education
Pierre Dartout was born in Limoges, France, on April 9, 1954. He graduated from the Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Paris with a law degree. After completing his military service in 1977, he pursued a degree at the National School of Administration, graduating in 1980.
Career in Public Administration
Dartout embarked on his career in the public administration sector, holding positions as Prefect of various departments throughout France. Prior to his appointment in the Alpes-Maritimes department, he served as Prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and Security and Defense Prefect of the Southwestern region. In 2015, he became Prefect of the Gironde department.
Prefectures in Overseas Departments
From 1995 to 1997, Dartout was Prefect of French Guiana. Subsequently, he held the same position in the Pyrénées-Orientales from 1998 to 2000 and in the Var region beginning in 2004.
State Minister of Monaco
On May 15, 2020, Prince Albert II of Monaco appointed Pierre Dartout as the new Minister of State. On September 1, Dartout was sworn into office, succeeding Serge Telle. The ceremony took place at the Princely Palace.
