Sonexay Siphandone: Laos's Current Prime Minister

Sonexay Siphandone has served as the Prime Minister of Laos since December 30, 2022.

Early Life and Political Career

Born in 1966, Sonexay Siphandone is the son of former President Khamtay Siphandone and the brother of politician Viengthong Siphandone. He rose through the ranks of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), being elected to the LPRP Central Committee in 2006 and to the Politburo in 2016.

Ascent to Prime Ministership

From 2016 to 2022, Sonexay Siphandone served as Deputy Prime Minister. On December 30, 2022, he was appointed Prime Minister by a parliamentary vote, receiving 149 out of 151 votes.
