Early Life and Vocation
Pierre Dumoulin-Borie was born into a Catholic family in France in 1808. In 1824, he entered the seminary to pursue his vocation as a priest.
Ordination and Mission to Macau
On November 21, 1830, Pierre Dumoulin-Borie was ordained to the priesthood. The Paris Foreign Missions Society assigned him to a mission in Macau, where he arrived on July 18, 1831.
Missionary Work in Vietnam
From Macau, Dumoulin-Borie traveled to Vietnam and joined the Southern Mission in Tonkin. He dedicated himself to pastoral work, ministering to the needs of the local Catholic community.
Persecution and Martyrdom
In 1838, while preaching the Christian faith, Dumoulin-Borie was arrested and imprisoned. While in prison, he received news that the Holy See had appointed him titular Bishop of Acantha. Shortly after, on November 24, 1838, he was sentenced to death and executed that same day.
Canonization and Legacy
On June 19, 1988, Pope John Paul II canonized Pierre Dumoulin-Borie as a saint of the Catholic Church. He is remembered as a martyr for his unwavering faith and his dedication to spreading the Gospel. The Catholic Church commemorates his feast day on November 24.
