Early Life and CareerPierre Richard, a famous French actor and comedian, was born on August 16, 1934, in Valenciennes, France. He comes from the wealthy aristocratic Defays family and is the grandson of Leopold Defays, the owner of a steel company. Richard's upbringing was unconventional as his grandfather enrolled him in a school for children from ordinary families, where he was often teased for being thin and unattractive. However, he discovered his talent for making people laugh by telling funny stories and jokes.
Despite his family's expectations for him to continue the family business or pursue a prestigious profession, Richard decided to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He moved to Paris and studied drama at the courses of Charles Dullin while also taking singing and dancing lessons. He started performing in cabarets and small theaters, adopting the stage name Pierre Richard.
Rise to Fame
Richard's career gained momentum when he starred in the film "The Distraction" in 1970, followed by the romantic comedy "Unlucky Alfred" in 1971. However, it was his role as the absent-minded musician in "The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe" in 1972 that brought him international fame. The film was a huge success and earned him the nickname "The Tall Blond."
He continued his successful collaboration with director Francis Veber and actor Gerard Depardieu in the crime comedies "The Toy" (1976), "The Fugitives" (1986), and "Daddy" (1983). Richard has been married multiple times and has children from previous marriages. His current wife is Brazilian model Selena Lasorda.
