Professorship and Collaboration
In 1688, Varignon was appointed professor of mathematics at the Collège Mazarin, a prestigious institution in Paris. Six years later, he ascended to the position of professor at the Collège de France, where he remained until his death. Varignon's brilliance earned him the respect of esteemed scientists such as Newton, Leibniz, and Bernoullis.
Contributions to Mechanics and Calculus
Varignon made significant contributions to the fields of statics and mechanics. His seminal work, "Project for a New Mechanics" (1687), introduced the precise formulation of the parallelogram law of forces. He also developed the concept of the moment of forces and formulated the theorem that bears his name.

He was among the first in France to promote the use of differential calculus, following in the footsteps of Guillaume de L'Hôpital.
