Van Himst's exceptional talent was recognized early on. In 1960, he was named Belgium's Footballer of the Year at the age of 16. Club Career
Throughout his illustrious career, Van Himst remained loyal to Anderlecht, representing the club for 17 seasons (1958-1975). He won eight Belgian league titles and three Belgian Cups with the Brussels-based club.
International Career
Van Himst played for the Belgian national team from 1960 to 1974, making 81 appearances and scoring 31 goals. He captained the team in 40 matches. Despite his exceptional domestic success, he experienced disappointment with the national team, notably at the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
