Bubacar Barry: The Talented Ivorian Goalkeeper
Bubacar Barry, an Ivorian football player, currently showcases his skills as a goalkeeper for the Belgian club Lokeren. Born into a humble background, Barry's football journey began on the streets of Abidjan.
Youth Career and Breakthrough
Barry's career trajectory started with Stella d'Adjamé's youth academy. In 1994, he joined the football school "MimoSifCom," affiliated with the prestigious club ASEC Mimosas. Despite initial setbacks, Barry's determination led him to write letters to the club's sports director and manager, resulting in his acceptance as a goalkeeper. On August 1, 1995, Barry officially became a member of MimoSifCom.
Professional Breakthrough and International Debut
In 1999, Barry signed his first professional contract with Mimosas, where he spent two seasons. His impressive performances caught the attention of French club Rennes, who signed him in November 2001. However, Barry primarily played for Rennes' second team, as the club relied on experienced goalkeepers Bernard Lama and Petr Cech.
Barry made his international debut for the Ivory Coast in 2006 and participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, making one appearance against Serbia and Montenegro. In 2010, he served as the national team's starting goalkeeper at the FIFA World Cup.
Career in Belgium
In July 2003, Barry moved to Belgian club Beveren, where he quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. The team reached the Belgian Cup final and qualified for the UEFA Cup during his tenure. Barry also received recognition as the second-best goalkeeper in the Belgian league by a media poll.
In July 2007, Barry signed a three-year contract with Lokeren. He was crowned the league's best goalkeeper in the 2008/2009 season, dedicating his award to the victims of a stadium stampede in Abidjan that claimed 22 lives.
Family and Legacy
Barry's older brother, Tierno Barry, is also a footballer who played for the Guinean national team. Bubacar Barry's talent and dedication have made him a respected figure in both Ivorian and Belgian football.
