Polina Deripaska: A Trailblazer in the Media Industry

Early Life and Education

Polina was born into a family with deep connections to the media. Her father, Valentin Yumashev, was a prominent journalist who worked for several notable publications, including "Komsomolskaya Pravda" and "Ogonek." Her mother, Irina Vedeneyeva, was a correspondent for "Sovetsky Sport" and "Moskovsky Komsomolets."

Polina pursued her education in both the United Kingdom and Russia. She attended the prestigious Milfield School in Britain, where she studied alongside Alexei Chubais' son. Later, she completed her undergraduate studies in management at Moscow State University (MSU).

Passion for Journalism

Despite her education in management, Polina had always harbored a passion for journalism. She credits her father's influence and her own childhood experiences for igniting her interest in the field.

Marriage and Family Connections

Polina's marriage to influential magnate Oleg Deripaska further strengthened her ties to Russia's elite. Their union was seen as a "dynastic marriage of the new Russia." Notably, after Polina's marriage, her father married Boris Yeltsin's daughter, Tatyana, making Polina an unofficial granddaughter of the former president.

Forward Media Group

In 2006, Polina realized her dream of working in the media by acquiring the publishing house "Ova-press," which published glossy magazines like "Hello!" and "My Little One and I." The company was later renamed Forward Media Group (FMG).

Polina insists that she secured the financing for the acquisition herself and makes all the major decisions for FMG. Her husband, Oleg, rarely intervenes in her business operations. Polina's ultimate goal is to establish a large media holding company.

Tennis Career

Prior to her career in media, Polina was a talented tennis player. She represented Russia on the junior national team.

Personal Life

Polina is married to Oleg Deripaska and they have two children, Pyotr and Maria. She continues to reside in Russia and actively participates in various philanthropic endeavors.
