Marina Karella began her artistic journey in 1960, studying at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 1963, she moved to Paris to continue her education at the École des Beaux-Arts. She studied under prominent artists Yannis Tsarouchis and Oskar Kokoschka.

Marina Karella launched her career in 1966 with her first exhibition at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Italy. In 1971, she presented her projects at the Galleria Levi in Milan. A year later, she showcased her notable works at the Iolas Gallery. Subsequently, she expanded her medium to include sculpture, working with materials such as gypsum, marble, and metal.
New York Interlude and Artistic Evolution
In 1980, while residing in New York, Marina Karella's paintings took on a darker tone. Her later works featured portraits and photographs inspired by nature.
International Recognition and Major Exhibitions
At the height of her success, Marina Karella's art was exhibited globally in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Madrid, Brussels, Rome, and London. Her works are currently held in major museums and institutions. She has had over thirty solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including a retrospective at the Benaki Museum in 2005.
Theatre and Film Collaborations
Marina Karella also contributed to the world of theater and film, designing sets and costumes for various productions. Notably, she worked with sculptor Takis on the play "Electra" in Epidaurus (1984), the film "Un Reve," and "Que La Nuit" (1976). Her collaborations extended to the National Theatre of Piraeus for Shakespeare's plays (1979), as well as operas such as "Don Giovanni" (1972) and "L'Incoronazione di Poppea" (1977).

Marina Karella's art evokes a sense of mystery, inviting viewers to interpret and create their own connections. Marina Karella is married to Prince Michael of Greece. Due to the morganatic nature of their marriage, she does not bear the title of "Princess of Greece and Denmark" or the style "Her Royal Highness." However, she may use the designation "Marina, Princess Michael of Greece and Denmark." They reside in France, the United States, and have a home on the island of Patmos.
Children
Princess Alexandra of Greece (born October 15, 1968) is married to Nicolas Mirzayantz and has two sons, Tigran and Darius.
Princess Olga of Greece (born November 17, 1971) is married to Prince Aimone, her third cousin and son of Amedeo, 5th Duke of Aosta. They have three children: Prince Umberto (born 2009), Prince Amedeo (born 2012), and Princess Isabella (born 2012).
