Biography of Rachel Flatt
Rachel Elizabeth Flatt was born on July 21, 1992, in Del Mar Beach, San Diego, California. She is an American figure skater who competes in the singles category. Flatt moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to begin her training. Her father is a biochemical engineer, and her mother works in molecular biology. After graduating from Cheyenne Mountain High School, Flatt plans to pursue biomechanics or sports medicine. Her grandfather was a national-level fencer.

Early Career
Flatt started skating at the age of four when, on her birthday, she chose figure skating lessons as her gift. Initially, she competed in both singles and pairs at the national level. In pairs skating, she won a silver medal at the national championships in the juvenile division in 2003 and a title in the intermediate level in 2004, both times with Andrew Speroff. In singles skating, Rachel won the US Novice national title in 2005 when she was 12 years old. However, due to age restrictions set by the International Skating Union (ISU), she was not allowed to compete at the junior Grand Prix the following season as she had not turned 13 yet. Flatt won a silver medal at the US Junior Championships in 2006.

International Success
Flatt missed the 2006-2007 junior Grand Prix season due to an injury but successfully made her debut at the senior level in the 2007 US Figure Skating Championships, where she placed fifth. Her international debut took place in March 2007 at the International Challenge Cup, which she won. In the 2007-2008 season, Flatt competed in the junior Grand Prix for the first time, earning a gold medal in her first Grand Prix event in Vienna, Austria, and a silver medal in her second Grand Prix event in Chemnitz, Germany. She qualified for the junior Grand Prix Final, where she won a silver medal. At the 2008 US Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota, Flatt won a silver medal in the junior division in the short program. As she was still too young to compete at the senior World Championships, Flatt was selected to represent the United States at the Junior World Championships. She placed third in the short program and won the free skate, ultimately winning the event.

Success in Senior Competitions
The 2008-2009 season started for Flatt at Skate America, where she finished fourth overall. She also competed at the Cup of Russia, winning a silver medal and losing to Italy's Carolina Kostner for the gold. At the 2009 US Figure Skating Championships, she won a silver medal. The following year, Flatt won a gold medal at the national championships.
