Early Years and Skid Row's Genesis

Rachel Bolan, the enigmatic bassist, songwriter, and co-founder of the legendary New Jersey glam metal band Skid Row, was born James Southworth on February 9, 1966, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. In 1986, at the tender age of 20, Bolan co-founded Skid Row with guitarist Dave "The Snake" Sabo, embarking on a musical journey marked by both triumph and tribulation.
