Rachel Susan Dratch, an American actress, was born on February 22, 1966, in Lexington, Massachusetts. Her mother, Elaine, worked as a transportation director, while her father, Paul Dratch, was a radiologist. Dratch attended Lexington High School, where she learned to play the cello. Initially, she had aspirations of becoming a therapist but decided to pursue a career in drama and psychology at Dartmouth College after graduating from high school. During her time at Dartmouth, she was part of the improvisational comedy group "Said and Done."

The Second City and Saturday Night Live

In 1986, Dratch was accepted into the National Theater Institute and became a member of the main cast of the comedy troupe "The Second City" for four years. She received the Joseph Jefferson Award for "Best Actress" for her performances in the plays "Paradigm Lost" and "Promisekeepers, Losers Weepers." It was during her time at The Second City that she met future "Saturday Night Live" writers Adam McKay and Tina Fey, as well as future "30 Rock" star Scott Adsit. Dratch and Fey showcased their show "Dratch & Fey" at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York.

Dratch rose to fame through her appearances on "Saturday Night Live." Her first appearance on the show was in the skit "Wicked," which was adapted from The Second City's "Paradigm Lost." She remained a cast member on the show for seven years, from 1999 to 2006.
