Early Life and Education

Rahimdjan Ataev was born in 1949 in a large family in Uzbekistan. He was the third child among nine siblings. In 1973, he graduated from Tashkent State University (now Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan).

Career in Literature

After graduation, Ataev worked as a research fellow at the Alisher Navoi Institute of Language and Literature. He also held positions in the Ministry of Education and the State Publishing House of Uzbekistan. From 1983, he was associated with the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan, initially as a consultant in criticism and literary studies, and later as a senior literary consultant. Since 1992, he has served as the Executive Secretary of the Union.
