Early Life and EducationRandolph Lerner was born on February 21, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Columbia University, where he earned an honorary bachelor's degree in science and art, followed by a degree in LLB. After completing Columbia Law School, Lerner became a member of the New York and District of Columbia Bar Associations and worked as a lawyer in New York City.
Career
Lerner graduated from Columbia University in 1984, after spending a year at Clare College, Cambridge. During this time, he developed a lifelong love for football, particularly teams like Arsenal, Fulham, and Aston Villa.
Lerner's father, Al Lerner, was a prominent businessman. Randolph followed in his father's footsteps and started his career at Progressive Corporation, where he worked as an investment analyst. In 1991, he founded an independent investment firm called Securities Advisors, Inc (SAI), which he managed until 2001. The company initially specialized in arbitration but later transitioned into a publicly traded organization.
After some time, Lerner became the founder of the giant enterprise MBNA and the owner of the Cleveland Browns football team. He later had to sell 40% of the company to pay taxes. Eventually, the decision was made to sell the organization to the larger Bank of America for $35 billion. The merger is expected to create the largest credit enterprise in the country.
Personal Life and Investments
Currently, Randolph Lerner resides in Cleveland and is married with four children. He is the owner of the American football team Cleveland Browns since October 2002 and serves as the chairman of the English football club Aston Villa Football Club since 2006.
