Early Life and Military Service
Rausul Isetov, a native of Kazakhstan, was erroneously registered as Uzbek in official documents. Despite this discrepancy, he emerged as a courageous soldier during World War II. At the young age of 18, he volunteered for the front or was drafted by the Turquestan District Military Commissariat in South Kazakhstan Province.
After receiving training in Ashgabat, Isetov was deployed to the 1st Ukrainian Front and later fought with the 4th Ukrainian Front.
Heroism on the Battlefield
As an infantry squad commander in the 138th Division, Isetov distinguished himself in battle, destroying two enemy pillboxes. He captured nine and later twenty-four German soldiers as prisoners of war. Isetov's exceptional bravery earned him recognition in the book "Heroes of the Carpathians," which recounted his daring exploits.
Victory Parade and Post-War Contributions
Among a select group of heroes, Isetov participated in the Victory Parade in Moscow in the summer of 1945, proudly carrying the regimental banner. After returning from the war, he dedicated his life to his homeland.
Shifting Identity and Legacy
Shortly before his death, Isetov changed his nationality from Uzbek to Kazakh. This decision was met with joy by the Kazakh community, who welcomed him into their ranks, eager to honor one of their own as a hero of the Great Patriotic War.
Honors and Recognition
Rausul Isetov received numerous awards, including the Hero of the Soviet Union and various medals. He was conferred the honorary citizenship of Turquestan, Kazakhstan, and Yasinia, Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine.
