Career in the Soviet Navy
After graduating from Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School, Komratov was appointed as the commander of a group within the cruiser submarine division of the Kamchatka Military Flotilla. He later became commander of the cruiser submarine division of the Pacific Fleet.
From 1982 to 1987, Komratov served as a junior military representative and head of a military representative group for the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. Upon graduating from the naval academy in 1990, he was appointed head of the military representative office of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR.
