Ray Jasper was an American rapper and criminal who was executed in March 2014. Born in the United States, Ray Jasper spent the last 15 years of his life in prison, awaiting either clemency or the death sentence. He was convicted for assault, robbery, and murder, which he committed over fifteen years ago. Initially, Jasper denied any involvement in the crimes, but eventually pleaded guilty when faced with overwhelming evidence.
A Tragic Incident
The incident occurred in November 1998 when Jasper was just 18 years old and pursuing a career in rap music. He attacked, robbed, and fatally slashed the throat of his partner, David Alejandro, who was also a musician and owned a recording studio. Jasper and Alejandro had collaborated in the past, but their relationship had soured. When the police investigated, they discovered stolen equipment from the studio in Jasper's possession.
A Troubled Past
During the subsequent trial, it was revealed that Jasper had a history of run-ins with the law. At 15, he was expelled from school for possessing marijuana and later expelled from another school for misconduct. He had also been involved in a confrontation with a police officer who tried to apprehend him. Despite these issues, Jasper spoke highly of his victim, describing Alejandro as "one of the best guys he had ever met." However, the evidence pointed towards a strained and insincere friendship between the two.
A Planned Attack
The prosecution presented irrefutable evidence that Jasper meticulously planned the attack. He had purchased the necessary tools for the crime a week prior, and witnesses confirmed this fact. Eventually, Jasper confessed to the crimes and revealed the names of his two accomplices. He was sentenced to death for the murder.
Attempts for Clemency
Throughout his years in prison, Jasper and his legal team made several attempts to appeal the court's decision, seeking clemency. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful, and Jasper was executed in Texas. On the evening of March 18, he was administered a lethal injection.
