In high school, Romano attended classes with Fran Drescher, the future star of "The Nanny." Later on, Romano had a guest role in the show based on their old memories.

After high school, Romano spent some time studying at Queens College in Flushing, New York, specializing in accounting. He completed his college education a few years later, having received only fifteen credits initially.

Romano's comedy career began with numerous small roles, mostly on Comedy Central. He voiced a recurring character in the show "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist." He also participated in the project "Star Search," which is similar to the Russian "Fabrika Zvezd."

Although Romano was cast as "Joe" in the American sitcom "NewsRadio," he was replaced by Joe Rogan. After this, Romano appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman," performing stand-up comedy routines. It was during this time that he caught the attention of CBS agents, ultimately leading to his own show, "Everybody Loves Raymond."

As Romano gained fame, he began receiving more acting opportunities. Alongside his comedian friend Kevin James, he played one of the lead roles in the comedy film "Grilled." In 2000, Romano appeared on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and won $125,000. He donated the money to the New York Police Department, where his older brother Richard works.

In 2001, Romano was named one of the top twenty artists of the year. That same year, he collaborated with his brother to create a series of recruitment posters for the New York Police Department. In 2004, he became the highest-paid actor in the history of television sitcoms.
