Formed by drummer Miguel Ortigas and guitarists Tirso Ripoll and David Aguirre in 1990, Razorback emerged from the vibrant rock scene of Manila. Their initial sound was heavily influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Juan de la Cruz Band, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden.

Early Success and Club Dominance

Razorback's first performance took place in Alabang, where they played under the name Outrider. After securing a victory in a Battle of the Bands competition, they became a regular fixture at clubs like Kalye, Dredd, and Peligro. They also participated in a joint music project with fellow Filipino rock band Wolfgang, performing under the moniker Flaming Hemorrhoids.

Album Releases and Critical Acclaim

In 1995, Razorback released their debut album, "Hebigat Sounds Volume One," featuring hits such as "Giyang" and "Pepe D' Hepe." The album marked the arrival of Kevin Roy as the band's lead vocalist. Their second album, "Beggar's Moon," followed in 1997 and achieved platinum status, solidifying their position as one of the leading rock bands in the Philippines.

International Exposure and Impact

Razorback's music extended beyond Filipino shores, as they performed at major concerts and opened for renowned acts such as Silverchair, Rage Against the Machine, and Metallica. Their album "Star," released in 1998, further cemented their reputation, featuring fan favorites like "Tikman ang Ulan" and "Pag-hihintay."

Reunions and New Beginnings

After a hiatus, Razorback reunited in 2000 with the return of David Aguirre. They released a double CD album, simply titled "Razorback," in 2002, showcasing a diverse range of styles, from love ballads to progressive rock. Aguirre departed the band again around 2003.

Tragedy and Loss

In 2018, Razorback announced the departure of Kevin Roy as their vocalist. Tragedy struck on January 16, 2019, when 41-year-old drummer Brian Velasco committed suicide, leaving behind a farewell video. The reasons for his decision remain unknown.
