Family Background

Rebecca's parents are Peter Moore, a renowned photographer within the FLUXUS movement, known for capturing both artists and their creations, and his wife Barbara Moore, an art historian and writer. Growing up, Rebecca was surrounded by the avant-garde theater scene of 1970s New York.

Early Musical Development

During her childhood, Rebecca learned to play the violin and piano. Initially, she practiced on a cardboard sheet with printed keys since her family did not yet own a piano. When they finally acquired one, Rebecca would spend hours experimenting with sound and recording her exercises on a cassette tape recorder.

Early Theater Career

As a teenager, Rebecca Moore began performing in experimental theater productions under the direction of renowned directors such as John Jesurun, Richard Foreman, Julia Heyward, Jo Andres, David Patrick Kelly, and Clarinda Mac Low, both in the United States and Europe. Her solo performances at small venues gradually evolved into full-scale, albeit low-budget, musical theater plays in which she often collaborated with a group called "The Prevention of Blindness," which she formed.

Music Career

Rebecca released two albums on CD: "Admiral Charcoal's Song" in 1996 and "Home Wreckordings 1997-1999" in 2000, both under the label Knitting Factory Records. Currently, she is working on her third album at John Zorn's Tzadik Records recording studio.

Activism and Arrest

In recent years, Rebecca Moore has become involved in social groups and organizations dedicated to preserving the creative and cultural heritage of the East Village and Lower East Side neighborhoods in New York City. On April 14, 2007, she and musician Marc Ribot were arrested during a protest against the closure of the avant-garde club "Tonic." They illegally entered the premises, encouraged by the chants of their supporters across the street.
