Childhood and Early Life

Reeve Jefferson Carney was born on April 18, 1983, in Manhattan's West Village. Raised with his brother Zayn and sister Paris, Carney grew up in a creative household. His parents were involved in the arts, with his father composing ad jingles and his mother working as a singer, actress, and jewelry designer. Inspired by his musical family, Carney developed a passion for the piano and showcased his vocal talent at a young age. He attended an improvisational acting class in SoHo and landed a part in the children's chorus for Michael Jackson's HIStory album in 1992.

Music Education and Early Recordings

Carney's musical aspirations continued when he joined Hamilton High School's Academy of Music with his brother Zayn and future bandmates Aiden Moore and John Epcar. After high school, he pursued a degree in studio jazz guitar at the USC Thornton School of Music. During this time, he performed at BB King's and released his debut EP, featuring contributions from Johnny Lang and other musicians.

Film and Theater Debut

Carney's acting career took off in the late 1990s with his role in Scott Hicks' "Snow Falling on Cedars," earning him a Young Artist Award. In 2005, he formed the jazz-rock band Carney, writing songs, singing lead vocals, and playing guitar. The band released their EP "Nothing Without You" and full-length album "Mr. Green Vol. 1."

Broadway Success

In 2010, Julie Taymor cast Carney as Ferdinand in her production of "The Tempest." He was later chosen to play the lead in the Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." His vocals impressed U2's Bono and The Edge, who invited him to collaborate on the cast album. Carney also appeared in Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" music video and contributed to the soundtrack of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

"Penny Dreadful" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

Carney portrayed Dorian Gray in the television series "Penny Dreadful" from 2014 to 2016. He earned critical acclaim for his performance in the horror-fantasy drama. In 2016, he starred as Riff Raff in the remake of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," showcasing his vocal and acting abilities alongside Victoria Justice and Christina Milian.

Solo Music and "Hadestown"

Carney launched his solo music career in the mid-2010s. He released the album "Youth Is Wasted," toured extensively, and received nominations and awards from the Independent Music Awards. In 2017, he returned to the stage in "Hadestown" with Canada's Citadel Theatre. When the musical moved to Broadway, Carney continued to play the lead male role.

Personal Life

Carney's personal life has been marked by several romantic relationships, including rumored romances with Ashley Greene, Lisa Origliasso, and Victoria Justice. He is currently in a relationship with Eva Noblezada, his co-star in "Hadestown."

Recent Work
