Regina Alves was born in Santo André, a beautiful suburb of São Paulo, Brazil. She began her career at the age of 13, winning a beauty contest in her hometown. Following this, she signed a contract with the modeling agency L'Equipe and by the age of 14, Regina had already worked for major advertising companies such as McDonald's, Tostines, and GM.
At the age of 17, she started studying theater and enrolled in acting courses at the Globo Studio. After completing the one-year course, Regina traveled around Brazil with two comedy plays. In 1998, she made her television debut in the series "Fascinação" ("Fascination") produced by SBT, where she played the lead role of Clara, a romantic and pure girl experiencing the pains of first love. During this time, Regina fell in love herself and married advertising manager Carlos Augusto, who was nine years older than her.
Her second TV project was the series "Meu Pé de Laranja Lima" on Rede Bandeirantes, where she portrayed the playful and flirtatious young beauty, Lila. Soon after, Regina signed a temporary contract with Globo and landed the role of the stubborn Rosalia in the miniseries "A Muralha" ("The Wall"). This role marked a turning point in her career, and after its release, Globo offered her a permanent contract and included her name in their roster of actors.
Regina faced some unsuccessful auditions for the series "Malhação" and "Pecado Capital," but her next role was that of the selfish Clara in the series "Family Ties." Initially, she hesitated about accepting the role, as it had been a short time since she had finished filming "A Muralha," and she was still immersed in the character of Rosalia and the atmosphere of the 17th century. However, director Ricardo Waddington managed to convince her, especially since Manoel Carlos himself wanted Regina Alves to play Clara. Her portrayal of Clara, a young, beautiful, intelligent, but cruel and ambitious woman who only dreamed of wealth, elicited a strong antipathy from Brazilian viewers. During the airing of the series, people would stop Regina on the street, reproaching and criticizing her for her character's actions. Regina's convincing portrayal of the villainous Clara blurred the line between the show and real life.
Manuel Carlos, the series' creator, was extremely pleased with the young actress's work, stating that it was remarkable that Clara, Iris, Cesa, and sometimes even Camila, evoked such strong reactions from the audience. According to him, any character should either inspire love or hatred, as indifference kills all their work. Among the emerging actresses, Manuel Carlos praised Regina, stating that she played her role magnificently, even surpassing his expectations.
In 2002, Regina's plans included participating in the series "Heart of a Student," but Globo's management changed their decision and invited her to join the series "Desire of a Woman." In this series, Regina played the character of Letícia, a 17-year-old girl and the daughter of the main character portrayed by Gloria Pires. On the first day of shooting, Regina was nervous because Gloria Pires played her mother, and she idolized her. However, after meeting and talking with Gloria, Regina felt relieved. Gloria not only encouraged and supported her but also treated her like a real mother, and Regina was thrilled to be working alongside her. Additionally, the personal memories of Letícia's conflict with her mother and her desire to become an adult resonated with Regina's own experiences in her youth. After the first episodes of "Desire of a Woman" aired, Regina's mother commented, "Regina, it seems like you are playing yourself!"
