Childhood and Early Life
Born on October 23, 1987 in Ulsan, South Korea, Seo In-guk spent his childhood with a younger sister. Despite coming from a humble family, where his mother worked as a waste collector and his father as a welder, In-guk pursued his passion for martial arts early on.
Music Career Beginnings
At the age of 10, In-guk was inspired by a Kim Jung-min concert to become a singer. He began performing at family gatherings and school events. Overcoming his father's objections, In-guk moved to Seoul to pursue a music education at Sehan University.
Despite his efforts to land a recording contract, In-guk faced numerous rejections due to his weight. Driven by the pressure, he developed bulimia. Despite this setback, In-guk earned degrees in Information and Communication at Kyeon Hee University, Performing Arts at Dongguk University, and Practical Music at Baekseok University.
Breakthrough with Superstar K
In-guk's rise to stardom began in 2009 when he won the first season of the talent show Superstar K. His subsequent debut mini-album and contract with a recording studio earned him the Cyworld Digital Music Awards' "Rookie of the Year" award.
Acting Success
In 2012, In-guk made his acting debut in a Korean musical. He gained recognition for his portrayal of a lovelorn teenager in the popular drama series "Reply 1997." His performance in "I Can't Breathe" (2013), where he played a struggling swimmer, earned him critical acclaim for his weight loss and dedication to the role.
In-guk's international success continued with the fantasy drama "Doom at Your Service" (2021), where he portrayed an immortal messenger between the gods and humans. His portrayal of a couple with Park Bo-young received widespread praise.
