Renée Carl, a French actress, director, and producer, rose to prominence as a stage actress by 1907.
Early Career and Silent Films
In 1907, Carl joined the Gaumont studios under the guidance of Louis Feuillade. She later collaborated with Romeo Bosetti on several films. Carl starred in silent film serials, including "Fantomas" and "Vampires," and participated in early experiments with sound cinema. Notable roles included the mother in "The Kid" and "Boudu Saved from Drowning."
Producer and Director
Carl ventured into producing and directed her own film, "Cry in the Abyss," in 1923. She played a significant role as a producer.
Later Work
Carl continued to act in notable films, including Henri Fescourt's "Les Misérables" (1925) and Julien Duvivier's "Pépé le Moko" (1937).
