She is the daughter of model Pearl Sue Light (nee Hollander) and accountant Sidney Light. Light attended local schools before graduating from Mary Hall (now Doane Academy) in Burlington, New Jersey, in 1966. She then earned a degree in drama from Carnegie Mellon University, graduating in 1970.
Theatrical Journey
Light's theatrical career began at the California Shakespeare Festival in 1970, where she made her debut in "Richard III." She went on to star on Broadway in 1975 in Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House." Light also performed with several mid-sized theater companies, including the Milwaukee Repertory Theater in Wisconsin.
Television Breakthrough
Light's breakthrough in television came in the ABC soap opera "One Life to Live," where she portrayed Karen Wolek from 1977 to 1983.
