Răzvan Cociș

Childhood and Early Career

Răzvan Cociș is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Major League Soccer (MLS) club Chicago Fire and the Romania national team. Born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Cociș began his football journey in his hometown. He honed his skills under the tutelage of his first coach, Mircea Cojocaru, and played for local clubs CFR Cluj and Universitatea Cluj.

Transfer to Sheriff Tiraspol

Despite interest from French side Rennes, Belgian club Gent, and Austrian team Rapid Wien, Cociș eventually made the move from Universitatea Cluj to Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol in 2004. The transfer came about due to Universitatea's financial difficulties and Sheriff's willingness to pay in cash. Cociș acknowledged that although he had his sights set on Rennes at the time, the allure of financial security at Sheriff was too great to pass up.

Success in Moldova

In his time with Sheriff, Cociș became a two-time Moldovan champion (2005 and 2006), won the Moldovan Cup in 2006, and lifted the Moldovan Super Cup in 2004 and 2005. He was also named Moldova's Top Striker in both of his seasons with Sheriff.

Transfer to Lokomotiv Moscow

In February 2007, Cociș signed a contract with Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow until November 2009. The transfer fee was reported to be around €2.6 million. Cociș's versatility as a forward and a defender made him an attractive option for Lokomotiv, who were looking to strengthen their squad.

Ups and Downs in Moscow

Cociș initially established himself as a regular starter for Lokomotiv, but his role gradually diminished over the years. Despite scoring five goals in 66 appearances, he expressed his desire to leave the club in 2009.

Return to Romania and Beyond

After leaving Lokomotiv, Cociș briefly trained with Universitatea Cluj and was linked with a move to English club Portsmouth. However, he eventually joined Romanian side CFR Cluj before moving to the Saudi Arabian league.

Loan Spell at Karpaty Lviv

In February 2011, Cociș was loaned to Ukrainian Premier League club Karpaty Lviv with an option to buy. He made a strong impression, scoring two goals in a friendly match against Litex Lovech and netting the winning goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in the league.

Return to Romania and MLS

Cociș returned to Romania in 2011 and played for Timișoara before venturing into the Saudi Arabian league once again. In 2020, he joined Chicago Fire in the MLS, where he has continued to showcase his versatility and contribute to the team's success.
