Biography of Ria Ginster
Ria Ginster was a German opera singer, soprano. She was born in 1898 in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, into a family of a pianist and choir conductor. From a very young age, Ria showed obvious and extraordinary musical abilities. After finishing school, she continued her musical education and eventually obtained a diploma as a concert performer from Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt.
Early Career
Striving for perfection, Ria began taking vocal lessons from Louis Bacher at the Academy of Music in Berlin. By this time, Ginster had already received several awards from music competitions and festivals. Very soon, the young singer performed on many concert stages in Europe, including Germany, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, and Italy. In the early stages of her career, Ginster focused entirely on concert performances, and in 1931, she made her debut in England, where she gained admiration for her performance of several oratorios. Later, Ria returned to England annually and secured a contract there.
Collaboration with Renowned Conductors
It is known that Ginster had the opportunity to work with the most outstanding conductors of her time, including Wilhelm Furtwängler, Otto Klemperer, Felix Weingartner, Serge Koussevitzky, Sir Thomas Beecham, Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Herbert von Karajan, Clemens Krauss, and many others.
Teaching Career
From 1934 to 1939, Ginster regularly visited the United States and Canada as she had signed a contract with a recording company. In 1938, the singer took a vocal class at the Music Academy of Zurich, where she taught for over 30 years. Starting from 1949, she also taught at the famous Mozarteum Conservatory in Salzburg. In addition, as a guest lecturer, Ginster worked at several American universities.
Legacy
Ria Ginster passed away in Zurich in 1985, surrounded by her grateful students who truly admired her.
