Ricardo Mello is a Brazilian tennis player who has achieved notable success on the Challenger circuit and in ATP tournaments.
Early Career and Challenger Circuit Success
Mello was born in Campinas, Brazil, and picked up a tennis racket for the first time at the age of three. He made his ATP Tour debut at the age of 15, losing to Gustavo Kuerten in his hometown tournament. In 1999, he won his first two Futures tournament titles in Uruguay and Paraguay.
Mello focuses primarily on the ATP Challenger Tour, where he has won eight singles titles and three doubles titles to date. His career-best singles ranking is No. 50, achieved in 2005.
ATP Tour Highlights
Despite his preference for clay courts, Mello has also had success on hard courts. He claimed his only ATP Tour singles title on hard court in Delray Beach in 2004, defeating Vincent Spadea in the final.
In 2006, Mello faced Andy Murray at the Campbell's Hall of Fame Championships. Although he lost the first set, Mello rallied to take the second set. After the third set was tied, Mello fell short in a tiebreaker.
At the RCA Championships in Indianapolis, Mello defeated Jean-René Lisnard in the first round but lost to Spadea in the second round.
Grand Slam Performance
Mello has competed in Grand Slam tournaments regularly throughout his career. His best result is reaching the third round of the 2004 US Open. Since 2007, he has failed to qualify for the main draw in some years but has made it to the first or second rounds in other years.

Mello is sponsored by Babolat, who provides him with clothing, shoes, and racquets.
