Early Life and EducationVictor Vasarely was born as Victor Vasarhely in Pécs, Hungary, on April 9, 1906. The son of a Polish immigrant, he demonstrated an early aptitude for art. In 1948, he enrolled at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he studied until 1953. He then continued his education at the Yale University School of Art and Architecture in New Haven, studying under renowned artist Josef Albers from 1953 to 1955.
Academic Career
Upon receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University in 1956, Vasarely embarked on a distinguished academic career. He taught at the University of Wisconsin, Cornell University, and Kent State University, where he played a significant role in shaping the art curriculum.
Move to New York and Op Art
In 1957, Vasarely relocated to New York City, where he served as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art.
