After completing his education, Knaak held various jobs, including warehouse manager and postal clerk. His passion for fantasy was sparked by Andre Norton's "Witch World" series. He also discovered the works of Roger Zelazny, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Edgar Allan Poe, who became major influences on his writing.
